Effective Immediately: New Piroplasmosis Policy for Oaklawn Park

All horse (both Thoroughbreds & ponies) entering the Oaklawn Park stable area must have a negative Equine Piroplasmosis (EP) test. The negative tests required with the opening of Oaklawn’s stable area on Monday, November 15, 2010, are as follows:

Theileria Equi and Babesia Caballi.

These negative tests will be valid for 365 days, just as a Coggins test (it is recommended that the test samples also include the tattoo number of the horse).

Please contact your practicing veterinarian or Arkansas State Racing Commission vet Dr. Larry Lomax if you have any questions. Dr. Lomax can be reached at (870) 403-3463.

Racetrack in Kentucky, Louisiana, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico and Oklahoma have adopted similar standards.
