HBPA, Racing Industry Mourns the Passing of Bryant McAfee

The National HBPA's staff and Board of Directors were saddened to learn of the passing of Bryant McAfee on May 2. Bryant was beloved by his HBPA colleagues and many others in the racing industry and was recognized internationally for his tireless work in counseling individuals with alcohol and drug problems within the horse racing industry.

McAfee was the longest serving executive of the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association of British Columbia. He began serving as executive director for both the HBPA of B.C. and HBPA of Canada in 1978. He was also inducted into the British Columbia Thoroughbred Hall of Fame in 2008. McAfee was the first recipient of the National HBPA's Industry Service Award in 2006.
