Nationwide Fundraiser to Assist Churchill Downs Horsemen

The National Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association (NHBPA), in conjunction with Equine Savings, is donating 10 Toro lawnmowers to aid the Kentucky HBPA and its membership who suffered losses from the tornado that hit the stable area of Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky late Wednesday, June 22, 2011.

Ten (10) HBPA Affiliate organizations across the nation will begin raffling off the Toro mowers on the Fourth of July weekend, and the raffles are expected to raise $10,000 to aid the affected horsemen.

“Toro graciously donated these mowers, stepping up in a time of need and demonstrating they are a true partner committed to the equine world,” said Equine Savings Founder Steve Andersen, adding, “I am proud to have companies like Toro-Exmark as partners, and their help is truly appreciated.”

According to National HBPA Director of Operations Laura Plato, the responses were immediate when she reached out to Affiliate HBPA’s nationwide. The HBPA is all about “horsemen helping horsemen,” and the swift response from horsemen and women across America drives home that mission.

The following is a list of the HBPA Affiliates that will be raffling off the Toro mowers:
  • Colorado Horse Racing Association at Arapahoe Park
  • Florida HBPA at Calder Race Course
  • Iowa HBPA at Prairie Meadows
  • Minnesota HBPA at Canterbury Park
  • Thoroughbred Racing Association of Oklahoma at Remington Park
  • Pennsylvania HBPA at Penn National & Presque Isle Downs
  • Virginia HBPA at Colonial Downs
  • Washington HBPA at Emerald Downs

Equine Savings (www.equinesavings.com) delivers a direct and tangible benefit to all breeds and disciplines, and Toro – a Bloomington, Minnesota company – offers a full line of Toro and Exmark products with substantial discounts through the Equine Savings program.

The National HBPA (www.nationalhbpa.com), based in Lexington, Kentucky, is the largest racing horsemen’s representative association in North America, with 30 affiliate organizations and over 30,000 member horsemen. Big Dee’s Tack & Vet Supplies, Equineline.com, and Horseman Labor Solutions are proud corporate partners of the National HBPA.
