The 2012 National HBPA Summer Convention is in the books, and the event featured some warm hospitality from the Iowa HBPA and Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona, Iowa. On the racetrack, Eclipse Award winner Hansen unleashed a dominating performance in Saturday’s $250,000 Iowa Derby, while HBPA members covered a variety of topics from medication to racing media to Thoroughbred aftercare.

Also at the convention, Robin Richards was elected president of the NHBPA and Stephanie Beattie was elected first vice president. Richards also serves as president of the Virginia HBPA, while Beattie has that position in Pennsylvania. This marks the first time that a woman has filled either of those positions with the NHBPA.

Marty Maline, the executive director of the Kentucky HBPA, was honored with the Industry Service Award.

Look for a full recap of the Convention in the next issue of the Horsemen’s Journal magazine.
