Washington HBPA Seeking Donations for Auction to Benefit Emerald Downs Backstretch Clubhouse
The Washington HBPA is seeking donations for an auction that will be held on Friday, April 1 to benefit the Emerald Downs Backstretch Clubhouse. Any type of donation is welcome. Racing, non racing, Small, large or monetary!
The Backstretch Clubhouse was the first childcare center located in the barn area at an American racetrack. It was built at Emerald Downs in 1998 entirely from donated labor, money and materials. The Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit association dedicated to providing low cost child care for families in and around the Emerald Downs community. Fees are on a sliding scale with all of racing participants receiving a discount on fees.
The auction is to provide revenue for the Scholarship Fund. Because the regular fees are very low as compared to neighboring facilities, financial aid discounts must come from fundraising efforts of the association. Money raised from the auction will be used to offer families in need financial assistance for childcare.
The Backstretch Clubhouse's mission is "to provide profession, low cost, quality childcare" and the center's ultimate goal is to have the financial means "to turn no child away because of the families inability to pay."
